The "unlock PDF" websites ask you to upload your bank statement and its password to someone else's server. PDF Unlock never does.

Decryption uses Apple's own PDF engine, locally. The file and its password never touch a network, unlike the "free unlock PDF" websites you've been trusting with bank statements.

In place, atomically

The unlocked file replaces the original, same name, same folder, and only after the decrypted copy is verified. A crash can never corrupt or lose your original.

Signature-aware

If a PDF carries a digital signature (common on Form 16), PDF Unlock warns you before rewriting, since decryption invalidates the signature.

Nothing runs in the background; the app wakes on right-click and exits. Updates arrive by themselves (Sparkle). Signed and notarized by Apple.

How it works.
Install once. It only wakes when you right-click.

  1. Drag to Applications

    Open the DMG, drag PDF Unlock in, launch it once. It registers the right-click menu item and shows you a sample locked PDF to try it on.

  2. Right-click a locked PDF

    Choose "Remove PDF Password" (in the context menu, under Services / Quick Actions on some versions), or just drop files on the app.

  3. Type the password once

    The file is decrypted and atomically replaced in place, same name, same folder, verified before the original is touched. That PDF never asks again.

PDF Unlock removes passwords you know. It is not, and will never be, a password cracker. If you don't have the password, it can't help you.
